Why not those 'free' generators
Most QR generators that top search results generate your code, quietly route it through their redirect domain, then hold it hostage. Here's the difference, point by point.
| Typical "free" generator | ScanArtist.io | |
|---|---|---|
| Codes keep working after printing | Only until they disable the redirect | Forever — the data is in the code |
| Routes through a server they control | Yes — a redirect domain | No middleman for static codes |
| Held hostage for payment | Common — pay or the code dies | Never — nothing to hold hostage |
| Account required | Often, even to export | None |
| Your data uploaded | Usually | 100% generated in your browser |
| Real vector + print export | Frequently paywalled | PNG/JPG/WebP/SVG/PDF/EPS, free |
| Price | "Free", then a subscription | Free forever, no tiers |
The honest exception: dynamic codes
Editable "dynamic" codes do need a redirect — that's inherent to how they work — so they're on our roadmap as an optional feature with honest terms: opt-in, GDPR-compliant analytics, and codes that are never deleted to extract payment. Everything you can make today is a static code that's yours for good.
